Rescatarán el ex Savoy como un Centro Cultural y hotel
El Gobierno Provincial y la Municipalidad de Posadas han tomado la decisión de llevar adelante un rescate de la estructura del ex hotel Savoy para crear un Centro Cultural donde se refleje su historia y se realicen eventos, además de revalorizarlo con una inversión turística como hotel de primera categoría y restaurante.
El proyecto tiene como prioridad conservar la fachada y los aspectos arquitectónicos del histórico edificio posadeño, dando respuesta a su entorno urbano con características sustentables y modernas, adaptadas a los nuevos tiempos.
El ministro de Hacienda, Servicios y Obras Públicas de Misiones, Adolfo Safrán, explicó al respecto que “se ha tomado la decisión de intervenir para rescatar este patrimonio cultural, que fue expropiado y se tomó posesión el año pasado, para ponerlo en valor, embellecerlo, evitar el riesgo de derrumbe que tiene actualmente y mejorar el aspecto de un espacio histórico de Posadas”.
La puesta en valor, explicó Safrán, incluye una inversión turística como hotel de primera categoría, un espacio cultural para desarrollar muestras artísticas y un restaurante que ofrecerá platos gourmet de la cocina tradicional misionera.
Según el proyecto, el primer piso se destinará al uso público de carácter cultural, salones, auditorio y museo del hotel y de la ciudad. En el segundo piso, se prevé ubicar un gimnasio con uso público y del hotel.
Sobre el edificio existente, se desarrollan 5 nuevas plantas destinadas a las 85 habitaciones del hotel, con vistas directas al rio Paraná y se proyectaron 95 cocheras.

La propuesta cumplirá con normas de edificio bioambiental y espíritu sustentable, con la recuperación de aguas de lluvia, paneles solares para consumo eléctrico y tecnologías de mínimo consumo.
El Hotel Savoy
En sus orígenes el Hotel Savoy, como lo conocemos, se llamó “Palace Hotel”, su construcción data del año 1912 y su inauguración, del año 1913.
Una edificación abrumadora e imponente para la época, signo del poder político y económico de sus primeros dueños, los hermanos Juan y Domingo Barthe, de origen vasco-francés.
Se trataba de acaudalados empresarios dedicados a la industria de la Madera y la Yerba Mate en Misiones, propietarios de muchas tierras tanto en la provincia, como en el país vecino de Paraguay y Brasil. También antiguos dueños y residentes de la casa ubicada por Félix de Azara al 1621 del centro posadeño.
El mito de la Gran Boda que dio origen al Hotel Savoy
Grandes historias, propias de la tradición oral, se han tejido en relación a la construcción del majestuoso edificio. La más popular sin duda, se trata de la boda de Anita Barthe, hija de Domingo.
Se dice que para la boda de Ana Barthe, que se celebraría en 1917, se esperaba un gran número de invitados provenientes de Europa, un casamiento opulento, digno de la realeza, por lo que el padre de la novia, Domingo, mandó a construir el edificio que hoy conocemos, a comienzos del Siglo XX.
Sin embargo, hay investigaciones que plantean la no existencia de registros de tal boda, por lo que asumimos que esta gran historia quedará para siempre en la incertidumbre y en el recuerdo de los posadeños que la siguen trasmitiendo fervientemente.
El Hotel : entre la opulencia y la novedad
El inmueble estaba conformado por un salón comedor de uso externo, un imponente salón para fiestas, eventos, bailes, funciones de cine y shows de gran escala, además de aproximadamente 52 lujosas habitaciones representadas por la gran fachada iluminada.
A demás de la distinguida entrada principal sobre la calle Sarmiento, contaba con grandes ventanales que daban cara a los balcones internos.
Se trataba de tres pisos o niveles: en el primer nivel o planta baja, funcionaba el sector social donde se ven las ventanas altas en la totalidad de la fachada.
En la planta intermedia se centra el balcón y se emplazaban las habitaciones más lujosas, con pisos de madera y baños con bañera, toda una novedad para la época.
En el último piso, también funcionaban habitaciones pero de menor categoría, con menos altura en relación a los pisos inferiores.
Siempre funcionó como un hotel y su época dorada fue de 1912 a 1925 cuando pertenecía a Barthe, con el nombre de Palace Hotel.
Es así que supo ser anfitrión de grandes personalidades nacionales e internaciones como Libertad Lamarque, María Elena Walsh, Luís Alberto del Paraná.
Recién en 1925, con el traspaso de propietario, se reinaugura con el nombre de Hotel Savoy.
En el periodo que abarca los años 1940 y 1967, el hotel pasó en manos de dos propietarios. En 1972 estuvo en manos del Fondo de Comercio con el señor Servando Menor al frente, para luego pasar sus 7 primeros años a puertas cerradas.
El 7 de noviembre de 1996, bajo la ordenanza número 157 del Honorable Concejo Deliberante se declara al Hotel Savoy Patrimonio Histórico, Cultural y Arquitectónico de la ciudad de Posadas.
Sin embargo desde la década de los 80´s hasta hoy, 2020, y a más de 100 años de su construcción, el que supo ser el hotel más lujoso y renombrado de la ciudad posadeña, se encuentra en estado de abandono y es testigo del paso silencioso del tiempo
Muchas gestiones municipales y provinciales, asociaciones y agrupaciones, lo incorporan a sus proyectos, mientras el hotel envejece, espera y resiste de pie en el centro posadeño.
