La fragata «Libertad» encabezó un un desfile náutico frente a las costas de Mar del Plata junto a embarcaciones de otros cinco países sudamericanos, en la edición 2022 del evento «Velas Latinoamérica», una travesía de tres meses que incluye una escala en la localidad balnearia, donde podrán ser visitadas de manera gratuita.
Vecinos y turistas comenzaron a acercarse desde las 15 a la zona del Torreón del Monje para observar las maniobras de los buques, que desde el pasado lunes por la noche se encontraban fondeados mar adentro, a unos mil metros del frente costero.
En su cuarta edición, «Velas Latinoamérica» es organizado por la República Federativa de Brasil, que celebra el bicentenario de su Independencia. Por Argentina participan, además de la fragata Libertad, los patrulleros «Bouchard» y «Piedrabuena», y también el motovelero «Dr. Bernando Houssay» de la Prefectura Naval, según informó la Armada Argentina.
Además, en la travesía y en el desfile frente a las costas marplatenses participaron el velero «Cisne Branco», de Brasil; el buque patrullero oceánico «20 de Julio», de Colombia; el bergantín «Guayas», de Ecuador, el velero «Capitán Miranda», de Uruguay; y velero tipo bricbarca «Unión», de la República del Perú.
Tras su zarpada el pasado 13 de febrero desde Río de Janeiro y las escalas realizadas días atrás en Punta del Este y Montevideo, la visita a Mar del Plata será la única entrada a puerto en Argentina, antes de seguir rumbo hacia los puertos chilenos de Punta Arenas y Valparaíso, y continuar un recorrido que finalizará en junio en Veracruz, México.
Finalizado el desfile, los buques quedarán fondeados frente a las costas, y mañana ingresarán al puerto local: en primer término lo hará la fragata «Libertad», a las 7.30, y con un tiempo estimado de maniobras de una hora y media para cada buque, se estima que a las 18 estarán todos amarrados en muelle.
A partir del viernes y hasta el próximo lunes, se permitirá el ingreso de visitantes a las embarcaciones, entre las 14 y la medianoche, con entrada libre y gratuita.
«Velas Latinoamérica» tuvo su origen en la Regata del Bicentenario Velas Sudamérica 2010, celebrada para conmemorar el bicentenario del inicio de los procesos de independencia de las repúblicas de Argentina y Chile.
Tras esa edición, las marinas latinoamericanas acordaron en la XXV° Conferencia Naval Interamericana (celebrada en el 2012 en Cancún, México), llevar a cabo cada cuatro años un Encuentro de Grandes Veleros a fin de estrechar y fortalecer los lazos de amistad existentes entre los pueblos participantes y sus marinas.
