Tras 30 años, el tren que conecta la ciudad de Buenos Aires con Mendoza llegó a la localidad viñatera de Palmira, a 40 kilómetros de la capital de la provincia. Pese a ser un festejo la reactivación de la conexión, hay un lado B: es más lento que hace tres décadas.
El tren del ramal San Martín salió este viernes a las 12.20 de Retiro y llegó a la provincia cuyana a las 17.20 de este sábado. Las 29 horas de viaje contrastan con las 20 que demoraba en marzo de 1993, último mes antes de su cierre. Hoy, en auto, el trayecto se puede hacer aun en menos tiempo: 12 horas.
La paciencia será necesaria para quienes decidan tomarse este medio de transporte público: hay tramos en los que el tren marcha a 40 kilómetros por hora, para transitar una distancia total de 1.025 kilómetros.
El retorno será este domingo a las 10 desde Palmira hacia Buenos Aires, donde llegará el lunes alrededor de las 14. Tiene programado hacer el recorrido cada 15 días.
El tren, con capacidad para 500 personas por formación, es guiado por la locomotora CKD8G0004 y GT229040. Este es el tercer viaje que completa la Línea General San Martín hasta Mendoza en los últimos seis meses. Sin embargo, el tramo entre la localidad puntana de Justo Daract y la mendocina Palmira lo hizo por primera vez con pasajeros, que tenían a esta última estación como destino final.
Después de diversas demoras y a más de dos meses de la “marcha blanca” de la cual participó el presidente Alberto Fernández en Palmira, arribó el primer tren de pasajeros que abonaron el traslado. Desde Retiro a Mendoza, hay 24 estaciones diseminadas en las provincias de Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Córdoba, San Luis y Mendoza.
El tren cuenta con un único coche dormitorio (con 12 camarotes, que es la capacidad por cada coche), y otros vagones de las categorías pullman, primera y coche comedor.
En cada camarote hay dos camas (una arriba y otra abajo), que también sirven de asiento. El camarero brinda a los pasajeros ropa blanca con dos almohadas y dos mantas (entregadas por la noche y retiradas por la mañana). Además tiene una mesa y traba para las puertas, control de la temperatura de aire acondicionado frío/calor y volumen de parlantes.
Los pasajes cuestan 6.125 pesos en primera, 7.340 en pullman y 20.030 en camarote para dos personas. Los chicos entre 3 y 12 años tienen un descuento del 50%, los menores de 3 van gratis y los jubilados reciben un 40% de descuento.
Para arribar a Mendoza, Trenes Argentinos tuvo que hacer varios trabajos, como la reconstrucción del pedraplén de La Picasa para llegar a Rufino y el mejoramiento de vías y estaciones para el retorno a Justo Daract, en San Luis. En la provincia vitivinícola se pusieron en valor las estaciones Libertador General San Martín y Palmira.
El próximo tren saldrá de Retiro a Palmira el viernes 16 de junio a las 12.20 y llegará el sábado 17 a las 16.40. Pegará la vuelta el martes 20 a las 10, porque es feriado, y arribará el miércoles a las 14.20.
