Máximo Thomsen es uno de los cinco rugbiers condenados a prisión perpetua por el asesinato de Fernando Báez Sosa y el único que no soportó de pie la lectura del fallo. Durante el mediodía del 6 de febrero, frente al tribunal que dictó su pena, Thomsen se desplomó y debió ser retirado de la sala.
La imagen derrumbada del joven 23 años, apodado «Machu», fue la antítesis de aquella que demostró el 18 de enero de 2020 en Villa Gesell , cuando después de pegarle a Báez Sosa caminó erguido hasta su casa para quitarse la camisa, colocarse una remera y dirigirse hasta un McDonalds para comer una hamburguesa.
Su rostro registrado por una de las cámaras de seguridad del local de comidas rápidas lo exhibió tranquilo y sonriente. La pose de alguien que repetía allí una dinámica arrastrada desde Zárate, su ciudad natal: pegar entre muchos, lastimar y huir.
Thomsen estudiaba Educación Física y realizaba algunas «changas» para mantenerse, desde colocar alambrados en casas de algunos vecinos hasta trabajar como patovica en un local bailable en el centro de la localidad.
A la par jugaba rugby, práctica que ejerció durante toda su infancia y adolescencia. Primero lo hizo en el Arsenal Zárate, hasta que en 2017 decidió probar suerte en el Club Atlético de San Isidro (CASI), en la división de Menores de 19 años, donde estuvo durante dos temporadas.
No quiso mudarse a San Isidro y escogía recorrer cuatro veces a la semana los 73 kilómetros que separan al club de su casa, ubicada en el barrio Villa Fox, para asistir a los entrenamientos y partidos. Jugaba de wing y en 2018 participó de una gira a Europa con el equipo juvenil que visitó países como Inglaterra, Gales e Irlanda.
Aunque eran muchas las horas de práctica compartidas, desde el equipo aseguraron que el joven nunca se «integró». Según se consignó en diferentes crónicas, sus compañeros lo describían como alguien «bastante callado». Tras su detención en enero de 2020, la Comisión Directiva decidió expulsarlo del club.
En los últimos días, según pudo averiguar TN, la relación entre Thomsen y algunos de sus amigos se rompió. Salieron a la luz las diferencias que éste tiene con los otros cuatro rugbiers condenados a perpetua y las internas, detectadas previo a la sentencia, se agravaron tras el fallo e incluyen pases de factura y reproches.
Por este motivo, Thomsen podría ir a una cárcel distinta a lo de los otros rugbiers y esta situación, incierta hasta el momento, lo inquieta y aterroriza. A tal punto que antes de conocer la sentenciapidió una consulta con una psicóloga en Melchor Romero. /TN
