El ex delantero argentino Maximiliano López está ocupando las primeras planas de los principales periódicos británicos después de que se oficializara la compra del Birmingham City, uno de los clubes con más historia del fútbol inglés.
Luego de varios meses de negociaciones, este martes el ex futbolista publicó en sus redes sociales un video caminando por el césped del St. Andrew’s Stadium y escribió: “En Casa”, lo cual dio por sentado el anuncio oficial de su nueva adquisición. Más tarde, el desde la TV británica pudieron hacerle algunas preguntas en las inmediaciones del estadio. “Es un dia muy feliz para nosotros y para los fanáticos del club”, aseguró el ex jugador.
“Es nuestro dinero, he estado trabajando para esto durante casi un año, creo que es un gran proyecto”, sostuvo en un breve diálogo con los periodistas. “Creemos que podemos hacer un gran trabajo en la ciudad, por nuestra afición y por el equipo. Estuvimos trabajando por esto por más de un año”, aseguró el argentino después de estampar la firma que puso fin a las especulaciones sobre el futuro del equipo de la Football League Championship (segunda división de Inglaterra).
El ex Barcelona, Milán y River Plate, entre otros, forma parte de un grupo empresarial que concretó las negociaciones para hacerse del club de la segunda división del fútbol inglés. Según destacó el periódico de la ciudad inglesa, el Birminghammail, el ex futbolista está asociado al dueño de la marca de moda Hera, Paul Richardson, y al empresario Christian Codoma.
En un primer momento todo hacía suponer que Laurence Bassini, ex presidente del Watford Football Club, iba a hacerse con la institución Blue, sin embargo el londinense no pudo completar la operación. Hasta el momento, la entidad pertenecía íntegramente al Birmingham Sport Holdings (BSHL), cuyo accionista mayoritario era el magnate chino Paul Suen.
Según las informaciones previas, el empresario asiático estaba dispuesto a vender una parte de sus acciones por un valor de 30 millones de libras (37 millones de dólares) con el objetivo de continuar conservando una parte de ellas para seguir ligado a la institución inglesa.
Cabe destacar que al inicio de esta semana, la empresa Maxco Capital (administrada por Maximiliano López y Christian Codoma) publicó en su página web que este martes harán un anuncio oficial sin precisar más detalles.

El Birmingham es un club tradicional del fútbol inglés.
