Desde el jueves pasado que el mundo entero entró en conmoción tras los fuertes ataques y la invasión que Rusia lleva a cabo en Ucrania. Tras una serie de protestas a nivel global en solidaridad con los ciudadanos ucranianos, con clubes y deportistas pronunciándose contra la guerra, este domingo la FIFA decidió intervenir con una sanción que dio que hablar.
La primera gran repercusión en el mundo del fútbol había sucedido con la modificación de la sede en la final de la Champions League, la cual estaba programada disputarse en San Petersburgo y finalmente se desarrollará en París.
Y ahora la FIFA no quiso ser menos que la UEFA y, además de condenar el uso de la fuerza y pedir el restablecimiento de la paz, la Mesa del Consejo de la entidad siguió las recomendaciones del Comité Olímpico Internacional en este tipo de situaciones y determinó, entre otras sanciones, despojar de la localía a Rusia y no permitirle utilizar la bandera ni el himno a su representativo en sus compromisos.
La Federación aceptó el pedido de Polonia de no disputar en territorio ruso el encuentro por Eliminatorias del 24 de marzo, por un boleto a Qatar 2022. Sin embargo, ahora la medida dejó sabor a poco y los polacos exigieron en un comunicado no jugar directamente ante ellos, en repudio al accionar del gobierno que lidera Vladímir Putin.
La delegación olímpica de Rusia no pudo utilizar su bandera ni denominación en los pasados JJOO de Tokio.
A su vez, además de la carta que presentaron juntos Polonia, República Checa y Suecia para desafectar a Rusia, también la Federación Francesa se pronunció para reclamar que no participen. “El mundo del deporte, en particular el fútbol, no puede permanecer neutral. No me opondría a una exclusión de Rusia”, argumentó el presidente de la FFF, Noel Le Graet, ante la prensa local.
