Argentina se ubica entre los diez primeros países productores de cítricos a nivel mundial, específicamente dentro de los cuatro principales grupos varietales: naranjos dulces, mandarinos, limones, limas y pomelos. El caso de la mandarina es significativo, dado que su principal destino es el consumo como fruta fresca. Prácticamente la totalidad de la producción nacional se realiza en el NEA, donde Misiones ha recuperado su producción, luego de la sequía.
Además de la mandarina, el limón y el pomelo registran en la provincia una gran producción que permite abastecer el mercado local y mejorar las ventas. ¿La razón? El incremento de las lluvias este año. Así lo manifestaron desde el Mercado Central, destacando su satisfacción porque la producción cubre la demanda.
Recuperación
Precisamente, el titular de la Cámara de Colonos del Mercado Central, Marcelo Guerrero, señaló en declaraciones a la prensa que la recuperación del sector es palpable, luego de años complejos debido a fuertes sequías. “Actualmente lo que más está saliendo es la producción de mandarina y pomelos”, indicó.
Asimismo, detalló que en el Mercado Central la mandarina en jaula sale alrededor de $3.000. Mientras que el pomelo por bolsa se consigue a $1.500.
“La mandarina sale hasta noviembre aproximadamente en distintas variedades según la época. En la actualidad sale la fruta común, es decir, la Nova y la Nadorcott. Después viene el tiempo de la mandarina dancy; y por último la Murcott”, comentó el productor.
Guerrero también subrayó que no existe escasez de producción y que lo producido se logra vender en su totalidad dentro de la provincia. El ciclo de lluvias ha jugado favorablemente en la producción de frutas de estación, que han recuperado casi completamente su producción.
Un productor de Candelaria explicó el proceso productivo: durante la primavera del año anterior la fruta inicia el proceso de floración y cuaje, y “si ésta se retrasa puede haber complicaciones con la cosecha siguiente”. Por ende, estimó que el año próximo podría ser aún mejor “debido a que existe un buen panorama de lluvias para lo que sigue del año y probablemente en septiembre -al comienzo de la primavera- vayan en aumento las precipitaciones”.
Y agrega que el mejoramiento de la oferta redunda en un alivio para el consumidor en cuanto a precio, debido al menor incremento de los costos de producción.
Finalmente, cabe destacar que las Ferias Francas de toda la provincia muestran un desempeño positivo en el rubro, los testimonios recabados así lo demuestran. Productores destacan las ventas de los cítricos y relatan que una de las claves es la calidad de la mandarina, el limón o el pomelo. “El cliente que llevó la semana pasada la fruta y le pareció dulce, vuelve a buscar porque la mandarina es rica”, explican.
Se puede conseguir la docena de mandarinas a $200 o 30 mandarinas a $500 o $600. Pomelos por unidad a $100, y limón en una bolsita que trae una docena vale $200.
