Historia desconocida: el gesto de Enzo Fernández con un compañero misionero que se quedaba sin pensión en River
Cuando jugaba en Octava, y sin siquiera preguntarle a sus padres, invitó a Imanol Segovia a vivir con él para que no tuviera que volverse a Misiones.
Enzo Fernández es el chico de moda después de su actuación en el Mundial de Qatar. Pasó de ganarse un lugar entre los 26 de la lista a último momento a imponerse entre los 11 y transformarse en la revelación de la Selección Argentina. Tan así fue que la FIFA lo premió como el mejor futbolista joven del campeonato, el mismo premio que cuatro años antes se había llevado el propio Kylian Mbappé. La consecuencia del elevadísimo nivel que mostró el ex River en la cancha es que Benfica no pare de recibir ofertas para llevárselo, propuestas que incluso superan los 120 millones de euros en los que está fijada la cláusula de rescisión y de los cuales un 25% le quedará al Millonario gracias a que la venta a mediados de año se hizo sólo por el 75% de la ficha.
Así, entonces, mientras el nombre de Enzo se codea con clubes como Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea y Real Madrid, también aparecen otras historias poco conocidas del pasado del futbolista que el próximo 17 de enero cumplirá apenas 22 años. Y, claro, están relacionadas con River, donde se formó desde que tenía seis años, pasando por las categorías Infantiles y las Divisiones Inferiores hasta llegar a Reserva y dar el salto a Primera.

«Enzo era muy buen compañero, un chico muy atento. Tuvo una actitud muy linda con un compañero que se había quedado sin pensión y lo llevó a su casa. Era una familia a la que no le sobraba nada, pero le abrieron las puertas para que no tuviera que volverse a su ciudad», le cuenta Jorge Gordillo, el técnico que dirigió a Fernández en la Octava, a La Página Millonaria. Y así descubre cómo nació una relación casi de hermanos entre el actual jugador del Benfica e Imanol Segovia, un defensor nacido en Misiones, también categoría 2001, que ahora acaba de fichar en el Elche de España.
«Yo llegué a River en 2016 y a mitad de año, como no me llegaba el pase libre de Crucero del Norte, me dijeron que no iba a tener más lugar en la pensión. Tenía 15 años y no me podía alquilar algo. No sabía qué hacer, me iba a tener que volver a Misiones. Pero apareció Enzo que, sin preguntarle a los padres, me dijo que fuera a su casa», recuerda Segovia sobre aquel gran gesto de su amigo. «Raúl trabajaba en una fábrica y Marta era ama de casa. Me dieron una mano bárbara. Ellos son mis papás del corazón, mi segunda familia. Sigo hablando con Enzo, con sus papás y sus hermanos. Les voy a agradecer toda la vida«, asegura sobre esos siete meses que compartió con la familia Fernández.

En diciembre del 2016, River lo dejó libre a Segovia y para no tener que regresar a su casa en el norte de Argentina, buscaron algún club donde se pudiera probar. Se enteraron que Racing estaba realizando pruebas y no dudaron en acompañarlo desde San Martín hasta Avellaneda. «Viajamos con Enzo más de dos horas en colectivo hasta el predio Tita Mattiussi. Por suerte me ficharon y al año siguiente, cuando arranqué en Racing, me dieron lugar en la pensión del club, así que me instalé ahí», comenta el actual defensor del Elche. Igual, la relación siempre se mantuvo.
Fueron rivales y también compañeros porque coincidieron en la Selección Argentina Sub 20 que participó del torneo de L’Alcudia en 2019 (un año después de haber conseguido el título con Scaloni como DT), ya con Esteban Solari como entrenador. «Fue una locura encontrarnos ahí después de todo lo que pasamos. Una alegría tremenda. Estábamos todo el tiempo juntos, pedimos compartir la pieza», recuerda Segovia durante la charla con La Página Millonaria.

Y, por supuesto, el vínculo se mantiene a la distancia porque la relación entre Enzo y su amigo será eterna. «Hablamos antes de que viajara a Qatar y durante el Mundial no lo quise molestar. Sí fui hablando con los hermanos, Sebastián, Rodrigo, Maximiliano y Gonzalo, y con los papás. Ellos no lo podían creer, todavía no caen de todo lo que les está pasando», cierra Segovia, el (quinto) hermano que la vida le dio a Enzo.
