Claudio Formenton, originario de la región del Véneto, Italia, dijo a su familia que se disponía a hacer un viaje humanitario en África para colaborar con una asociación italiana que se ocupa de varios proyectos de cooperación.
La historia que vivió un empresario italiano supera todos los límites de estafas ocurridas por Internet. El hombre viajó a África para conocer a una mujer con la que mantenía una relación online, pero al llegar a Costa de Marfil fue secuestrado por criminales.
Gracias a la Policía italiana y las autoridades del país africano, el empresario consiguió regresar a Italia sano y salvo.
La historia comenzó hace unos meses. Claudio Formenton, de 64 años, conoció en un chat de encuentros a una joven mujer africana, Claudia Martins, de la que se enamoró locamente.
Durante el tiempo que duró la relación a distancia, la pareja se intercambió fotografías y mensajes. Hasta que poco antes de Navidad, el hombre decidió viajar al continente africano para conocerla en persona.
El empresario, originario de la región del Véneto, dijo a su familia que se disponía a hacer un viaje humanitario en África para colaborar con una asociación italiana que se ocupa de varios proyectos de cooperación. Se subió a un avión y voló 7.500 kilómetros hasta Abiyán, la capital de Costa de Marfil.
Pero cuando aterrizó en el aeropuerto fue secuestrado por una banda de criminales y transportado hasta un bosque donde se perdió su rastro. Estuvo desaparecido durante varios días. La falta de noticias del hombre hizo saltar las alarmas en Italia. Amigos cercanos conocían el verdadero motivo del viaje y, al no poder contactar con él, advirtieron a las autoridades italianas, que pusieron en marcha una operación para encontrar al empresario en el país africano.
Tres días más tarde, la Policía de Costa de Marfil junto con los servicios de inteligencia italianos localizaron a Formenton en una habitación de hotel en la ciudad de Bonoua, una pequeña localidad al este de la capital.
Con él se encontraba el presunto carcelero, que fue inmediatamente arrestado por la policía. Pero de la mujer, no había ni rastro. Claudio Formenton fue liberado y trasladado a Italia poco después.
